Hand-dyed in West Africa
West Africa has a long tradition of dyeing with Indigo. The dyers use a variety of stitching and tieing techniques to create a resist before dipping the whole cloth into the Indigo vat. Our Indigo cloths normally come from Guinea or Mali, and sometimes from Senegal.
All cloths are 100% cotton woven in a subtle Damask pattern.
Sizes vary, usually 120 x 150 cm / 47 x 59 in, approximately.
Please note: These cloths may contain a few small threads left over after the stitches or ties have been removed. These may be visible in the images and are easily removed with a gentle tug. Also, some cloths may appear quite shiny when they are new (again, sometimes visible in the imaages). This is the effect of 'ironing' them when they are still damp by pounding the cloth with a wooden pin. This shine will come off after washing.
